  • How long does the hiring process take for caltrans?
    The hiring process can take about 2-3 months. The first month involves posting the job up on Calcareers and collecting applicants. The second month is a screening process of the applications and setting up interviews for the job. The third month is based on H.R. processing the information of the new hire and confirming applicants references etc. Now this is just a rough outline of this process it can take more or less time based on staffing and time of year.
  • What is a pilot vehicle?
    A pilot vehicle is a car or truck used to guide traffic through a flagging operation. The escort vehicle works in coordination with the flaggers to ensure the workers on foot are safe.
  • What is a flagging operation?
    A flagging operation is used typically on a freeway with two lanes and involves flaggers controlling the flow of traffic through the closure. The flaggers use two-way radios to communicate to each other and use stop paddles to communicate to traffic. A flagger shall be placed at each end of the operation at all times and should be visible to the traveling public. If available a pilot vehicle should be used to guide traffic through the flagging operation.
